Asian budget carrier gambles on new routes
Reno News.Net Sunday 7th September, 2008
One of Asia’s largest budget carriers, AirAsia, has decided to increase flights and add new routes.
While other Asian airlines have been cutting back due to soaring fuel prices AirAsia is filling the vacuum, betting that there will be more demand for budget flights amid the global economic downturn.
Analysts say that if it survives the industry slump, AirAsia could come out a winner with increased customer loyalty and a strong route network.
Last month, AirAsia reported a 95 percent plunge in its net profit for April-June quarter to US$2.9 million, mostly due to foreign exchange losses.
